The Problem
Cannabis research and strain development are controlled by a small number of corporations and well-funded labs. These entities dominate genetics, breeding and IP rights, capturing most of the value through patents, licensing fees and private agreements.
Meanwhile, the broader community growers, dispensaries and consumers is excluded from both participation and ownership. The result is a system that lacks transparency, limits innovation and leaves breeders struggling to protect their work.
Without an open and standardized model for strain IP, the industry continues to grow unevenly with benefits concentrated in the hands of a few instead of being shared across the people who sustain it.
